Since 2012, More than 200 unused private vouchers have been reissued by the UDWR for an alternate CWMU willing to allow a not-for-profit entity to hunt a big game animal. Dozens of groups have found candidates with many unique challenges to benefit from this effort. Sick kids, wounded veterans, terminally ill people, gold star families, deaths in the family, para and quadriplegic individuals, and a host of other maladies have created an enormous need. Our CWMU members have donated millions of dollars of value collectively and a tremendous amount of their own money to pay for labor, fuel, food, etc., to promote these hunts with little or no economic value in return (Only a charitable contribution tax deduction is allowed! None of these hunts can be sold by law).
We hope that these hunts will alleviate dark times that can lead to suicide and give a positive memory to look forward to and focus on while going through challenging situations. In addition, our association has promoted dozens of pheasant hunts with these various groups to get in touch so individuals can connect with other recipients and share positive experiences where they can remember their hunts and be with a “community” willing to share. More than half of all CWMUs have assisted by donating vouchers or allowing hunts to take place, with many more expected. These efforts have not decreased a single public hunting opportunity. The owners and operators of CWMUs are truly “Giving Back.”
